Mount Assiniboine Provincial Park is situated along the Continental Divide between British Columbia and Alberta. In 1928, the first backcountry ski lodge in the Canadian Rockies, Assiniboine Lodge, was built in front of Lake Magog. With no roads leading to it, visitors can opt for a multi-day backcountry hike or helicopter flight operated by the lodge. In order to preserve the area, camping here requires a permit from BC Parks, usually months in advance.
