South Tufa is an area of Mono Lake that features a large area of the exposed limestone columns for which it is named.
There is a short loop trail leading from the parking area to the shore of the lake where you can see the tufa up close.
The lake itself is made up of saline soda water and thrives with brine shrimp.
Directions
Mono Lake is located near the eastern edge of Yosemite National Park. The South Tufa Area is east of Lee Vining and accessible from Test Station Rd, off US Hwy 395.
